The Asset/Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the company’s fleet of various size/type trucks, heavy construction equipment, and specialty tooling. This role ensures the operational reliability, integrity, and value of all company assets through proper tracking, maintenance, compliance, and lifecycle management. The Asset/Fleet Manager will lead the implementation of new systems and processes for asset control, leveraging telematics and modern asset-management technology to optimize efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness. What you'll do
- Fleet & Equipment Management
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the company’s fleet of trucks, heavy equipment, trailers, and specialty tools.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and other relevant regulations.
- Utilize telematics systems for performance monitoring, fuel usage, driver behavior, preventative maintenance scheduling, and incident reporting.
- Oversee inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs to maximize uptime and extend asset life.
- Develop and monitor utilization reports to ensure assets are deployed effectively and cost efficiently.
- Asset Tracking & Systems Implementation
- Implement and maintain asset management software to track equipment, tools, and vehicles across multiple job sites.
- Develop a centralized system for assigning, checking in/out, and auditing tools and specialty equipment.
- Ensure real-time visibility of all company assets to reduce loss, theft, or misuse.
- Establish KPIs and reporting dashboards for asset performance, cost per mile/hour, downtime, and replacement planning.
- Financial & Strategic Oversight
- Manage fleet and asset budgets, including fuel, maintenance, repairs, rentals, and capital expenditures.
- Analyze asset lifecycle costs and recommend repair, replacement, or disposal strategies.
- Collaborate with leadership on long-term capital planning for fleet and equipment acquisitions.
- Negotiate vendor contracts and oversee third-party service providers for maintenance, repairs, and leasing/purchasing.
- Compliance & Risk Management
- Maintain accurate records for inspections, registrations, licenses, warranties, and insurance requirements.
- Develop policies for safe use, preventative care, and driver/operator accountability.
- Conduct periodic audits and risk assessments of asset management practices.
- Ensure environmental, health, and safety standards are met in fleet and equipment operations.
- Leadership & Communication
- Supervise fleet/asset coordinators, mechanics, and support staff.
- Provide training and guidance to employees on asset care and reporting requirements.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal departments regarding equipment availability, readiness, and issues.
- Collaborate with field operations to anticipate project needs and allocate resources
- accordingly.
What we're looking for
- Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Construction Management, or related field
- preferred.
- Minimum 5+ years of fleet/asset management experience in construction, utilities, or
- related industries.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of telematics, fleet management software, and asset-tracking systems.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite; experience with ERP systems is a plus.
- Understanding of DOT/FMCSA regulations, OSHA safety standards, and construction
- equipment operations.
- Other Skills:
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong vendor negotiation and contract management abilities.
- Ability to manage budgets, track costs, and drive cost-saving initiatives.
- Effective communication and leadership skills to engage both field and office personnel.
