About the Role
Join our team at Pat's Rest Awhile, a beloved waterfront seafood restaurant helmed by renowned Chef Pat Gallagher. Located in a beautifully restored 1880s hotel on the Mandeville lakefront, we offer an extremely casual, "come as you are" atmosphere with upscale service quality. Our historic property features multiple dining areas including the main restaurant, outdoor lakefront deck, oyster bar, and dog-friendly patio.
What you'll do
- Customer Service Excellence
- Greet guests warmly and create a welcoming, fun atmosphere
- Take accurate food and beverage orders across multiple dining venues
- Provide knowledgeable recommendations about fresh Gulf seafood and daily specials
- Handle customer concerns professionally while maintaining our casual, friendly vibe
- Ensure exceptional service that matches our upscale standards despite casual setting
- Food & Beverage Service
- Serve fresh Gulf seafood, steaks, and signature dishes (Gulf Fish Almondine, charbroiled oysters, 8-hour smoked ribs)
- Navigate between different dining areas: main restaurant, lakefront deck, and patio
- Serve craft cocktails, wine, frozen daiquiris, and beer accurately
- Maintain food safety standards and proper serving techniques
- Process payments using POS system efficiently
- Teamwork & Operations
- Collaborate with kitchen staff and servers across multiple venues
- Assist with opening/closing duties in historic property setting
- Maintain cleanliness standards in all dining areas
- Support team during busy lakefront dinner rushes
- Follow health and safety protocols consistently
What we're looking for
- Previous restaurant or customer service experience (minimum 6 months preferred)
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced, high-energy environment
- Physical stamina to stand, walk, and carry trays for 4+ hour shifts
- Basic math skills for payment processing and tip calculations
- Reliable transportation and punctual attendance record
- Flexibility to work in outdoor lakefront conditions (heat, humidity, occasional weather)
- Must be 18+ years old
- Food handler's certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days)
Nice to have
- 1+ years of restaurant serving experience, preferably in casual dining
- Experience with seafood restaurants or Gulf Coast cuisine
- Knowledge of wine, craft cocktails, or beer service
- POS system experience (Toast, Square, or similar)
- Experience serving in outdoor/patio dining environments
- Bilingual capabilities (English/Spanish)
